Shower Leak into Pantry/Basement
:-o Our shower leaked and because it's over the kitchen in the main floor, ALL the water from the shower SOMEHOW leaked into our pantry and wet all the food! It ALSO leaked through the pantry into the basement and rotted all the carpet, so we had to get that replaced as well as the shower! :-(

The toilet backed up at our house and flooded the bathroom floor. After using buckets to get out the water, the smell stayed for what seemed like forever!!

Dug up the street
About three years ago the sewer company had to dig up the street in front of our house to replace the pipe. When liad in new there was a belly in the pipe and over time it just built up until on day it clooged. It was cool to see the pipe on video.
#227 - Marilyn Wons - 02/07/2010 - 08:02
I woke up to a funny noise. That was coming from under the bathroom sink. Opened the door and water was spraying everywhere. The shut off valve had blown.

TUB DRAIN
ONCE WHEN I TOOK A BATH, THE CEILING IN THE KITCHEN STARTED SPRAYING WATER. WHEN THE PLUMBER CAM TO FIX THE LEAKING WATER, HE SAID THAT THE PIPE UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR TUB HAD JUST BEGUN LEAKING BECAUSE IT WAS OLD AND THE TUB IS RARELY USED. AFTER HE FIXED IT, IT HASN'T LEAKED SINCE THEN. THANK-YOU FOR READING, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THE IPOD BECAUSE I RECENTLY LOST A $400 TOUCH AND CANNOT REPLACE IT (NO MORE MONEY).

Ceiling Fan
My brother and I installed 3 ceiling fans together last week. We saved $210 by doing it ourselves. It is not so hard. You just follow the instructions. And if you do face any problems, YouTube and Google can help a lot.

Toilet
Now here's a disaster from two months ago. Me and my mum were taking showers in our bathrooms. Suddenly there was water everywhere- it was coming up from my toilet! The water went from my bathroom to first floor AND basement, decks and floors were destroyed, we had to replace the kitchen cabinets, the huge drying things were in our house for 3 weeks, they sound like a freaking aeroplane. It took us a month to clean everything, the cost of destruction was in thousands of dollars... And they still don't know why it happened. Life.

Children
Neighborhood children often go on adventures in our local sewer. This is dangerous and unsanitary. The opening is 2ft high, though, so it is easy for them to get away with it.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CHANGING AN OLD TOILET OUT OF A BATHROOM DUE TO THE SIZE. HOW CAN I MEASURE TO GET THE PROPER SIZE TO FIT WHAT IS ALREADY THERE? IF I GET THE WRONG SIZE, THEN I MAY HAVE ISSUE WITH IT NOT FLUSHING PROPERLY OR LEAKING.

Septic overflow
My husband won't pay to get our septic system pumped out because his parents have never had to get their's pumped in 30 years or something. It's already backed up into the bathtubs once but he just dug it up and took the lid off to let out some pressure then covered it back up. I'm just hoping we sell our house before the next big rain!

Kitchen sink/toilet bowl mix-up?
While renovating our new house, we had to use the bathroom quite a bit. You see, my family was redoing the whole house ourselves, so we spent the entire day there. We had the plumbing and piping hastily done before we started - we had plans to get it done proper after we moved in.
So my mom was in the kitchen, by the sink chopping cheese and veggies for sandwiches for our snack, and meanwhile my little sister was taking her time in the main bathroom. I had to go too and a split second before I pounded on the door, my sis screamed.
She was screaming something about a monster and when I opened the door, I saw green leafy things floating in the bowl. As I was staring, a yellow cube popped up. My mother's cheese.
It was gross. I don't know how it happened but when we re-did the piping afterwards, we made pretty sure the pipes ran through their respective connections.

We just purchased a home 3 months ago. We have a spetic system. We live on a slight hill. Every day there is a puddle of water at the base of the hill. Could this mean our Spetic is leaking? We had an inspection and they said all was a-ok.

I saw on TV
I saw a show on TV about a woman that went on a cruise in 1986 on a ship called the 'Pegasus'. This ship had new 'vacuum system toilets' and one night she went to the bathroom and flushed while she was still sitting down and the force of the vacuum sucked her intestines out!! Somehow they got her off the ship and to a hospital and she was okay after they did surgery to put everything back inside. Scary though!

No water
The day after xmas we had no water at all around mid-day. I called the water company 7andthey were not having any problems. But they said they would come out & do a check, they could always be a blockage or a water main leak. They came out and all was good.

I called a plumber & it turned out that brine from the water softener.

How to save money
Another tip is that if you don't want to put a brick in your toilet, you can put a empty two liter bottle (refilled with water and capped tight) in the toilet. It will work same as the brick method but it is softer to the porcelin. Thank you for offering this great sweepstakes!!

Yeah for sewers!
I have always lived in a house with city sewers...Never had a problem with any plumbing.....WEll, that was all about to change. My family moved to our new house. What none of us realized was that we had a septic tank. I had never heard of one of those, but boy did I learn fast. Besides myself, I had my sister and sister in law staying in my home....thats three woman who were all used to flushing our feminine products down the toilet, after all the box dose say flushable. Well after a while every time I would run the dishwasher I would smell this terrible smell coming from outside...I discovered a puddle. I went online and realized what our problem must be....In the long wrong we ended up having to replace the entire drain field, and now we take excellent care of our plumbing!

Not clogged, but...
One day, our toilet and our washing machine were both being used at the same time. Then, water from the toilet and the washing machine began coming up through the shower drain! We were flabbergasted, and called a plumber service, because we couldn't "plunge" it. The plumber couldn't figure it out, either. Finally, we remembered that earlier that week, the local utility service had done some work on the pipes near our house. We had the utility service come out, and it turned out that they forgot to cut us a hole in the big pipe so that our used water could flow out. All the water had just been sitting in our pipe all week! :-D
